Clevedon Karate Kai youngsters combined to win medals at the Western Karate Union winter competition at Hutton Moor Leisure Centre.

It was the first time on matted areas for many, with 14 children aged six to 10 competing on the Shobu Jukaren.

Two of the youngsters came away with bronze medals in their first event, while Cassidy Backhouse took silver in kata and Callum Backhouse added bronze.

The club also celebrated their first medal in kumite for some time thanks to Stacey Milliner who won bronze in her first competition.

The club has also moved forward in the coaching department with older instructors taking more of a back seat, as John Green, Donna Robertson and Rory Daniels pass their experiences onto students.

For more information about the club call Kevin on 07780 664457.
