Lauren Malone's hat-trick helped Woodspring Women move one win away from promotion in their first ever season after beating Paulton Rovers Ladies Development 4-1 last Sunday (January 30).

It was first versus third on Sunday with only the top two getting promotion, giving Paulton the ideal chance to cut the gap on the league leaders.

However, Woodspring made the perfect start when less than five minutes in Malone flicked the ball round her marker to run through and slot it past Alison Diegutis.

The lead lasted just a couple of minutes as a fantastic long range effort from Mia Vickery pulled Rovers level.

In a frantic opening 15 minutes Malone scored once again to re-establish Woodspring's lead and go into half-time 2-1 up.

Midway through the second-half a quick counter attack set Malone through one-on-one again, but this time Diegutis could do nothing to stop her completing her hat-trick as she side footed it past the goalkeeper.

Woodspring were able to add gloss to the finish in the final minute where a short corner routine allowed Page Bailey to finish a close range volley to seal the win.

Alex Simms earned MVP for a dominant midfield display, as Woodspring welcome second place Cheddar Ladies to Fryth Way, home of Nailsea & Tickenham, this Sunday at 2pm.
