Clevedon and Nailsea School athletes are to represent Avon in the regional finals.

IN the English Schools Cup athletics competition, Clevedon and Nailsea School athletes helped their teams win age groups to represent Avon in the regional finals held in June at Exeter and Millfield.

In keenly contested competitions, the two schools beat off seven other school teams to win their county titles.

In the inter boy’s events, Clevedon’s Beak Strakaew won the long jump with a great 5.75m, whilst Nailsea’s Nathan Timbrell won double gold in the triple jump (11.84m) and the 100m (11.6). Matthew Mills (Clevedon) ran a good 400m to win in 56.9, whilst both Nailsea 200m runners, Sam Osborne and Josh Ramella, both recorded 23.9.

Liam Fourie (Nailsea) took the shot with 11.93m, whilst Sidcot School had a winner with Owen Seager’s high jump of 1.55m.

In the junior boy’s event, Nailsea’s best scorer was Harry Marshall who won the javelin with 30.30m. Clevedon’s Corey Davis took the 1500m with 5.10.0 and Adam Sandy the triple jump with 10.20m.

In the girls’ events, best junior girl for Clevedon was Laura Hearn who ran a 14.2sec 100m and a javelin throw of 17.30m. For Nailsea, Imogen Fisher scored an impressive 18 points for her 200m in 30.0. For Sidcot, Ailsa Craig threw 7.02m in the shot for 17 points.

The inter girls’ competition highlighted Katie Grinyear from Clevedon School, who after a great race with a Bath High School athlete, ran away with the 800m in 2.27.0. Hannah Gries, a team-mate ran well in the 200m for a 27.5 clocking.

The Clevedon team finished third behind Nailsea, whose best performer was Frankie llen, who ran 28.5 in the 200m and then scored 21 points in the shot with 8.64m. Ella Blackham and Ellie Hield supported well with good efforts in the 300m and hurdles.

Junior boys: Nailsea 312; Colston Coll 268; Castle 266; Clevedon 229; Beechen Cliff 221; Brimsham Green 143; Sidcot 133.

Inter boys: Clevedon 393; Nailsea 387; Colston Coll 326; Sidcot 255; Castle 254; Beechen Cliff 209; Brimsham Green 175.
