THIS was the final league game of an exciting and successful season and with 13 wins and two draws, the intent was to keep the statistics safe.

Within minutes, Cath Hole made her presence felt giving Nailsea an early lead. A second followed when a goalmouth skirmish was halted by Jenny Haynes. Tracy Williams converted a cross from the right to make it three and then grabbed her second, slamming home a loose goal clearance.

Redland fought well throughout and broke through Nailsea’s tight defence to pull one back. Nailsea brought on their subs Katie Hodges and Helen Harrington, both playing their first matches of the season for different reasons.

Katie has been away travelling and Helen to have a baby. Minutes later, however Helen put her name on the goal sheet, with a reverse stick strike. Right on the half-time whistle, Hole watched her solo effort find the net as she was brought crashing to the ground by the advancing keeper.

Following the turn around, Nailsea kept up the attack, Redland secured their defence and the home side found goals were harder to come by. However, Jo Faires did find the end and Tracy Williams added her hat-trick, a fitting end if she carries out her threat to retire.

This result makes Nailsea champions, heading the table with 14 wins, two draws and a total of 108 goals scored.

With Nailsea now having one team in the Central Division and the other gaining promotion, they will be looking to enhance their squads next season. Anyone interested please contact 01275 857358.
