Injury-hit Royals adjust for another win

Clevedon Royals Re-United’s squad were put to the test after several injuries disrupted its latest match.

THE depth and versatility of Clevedon Royals Re-United was put to the test last week when they lost centre stalwart Welch to injury, while Bryant is still recovering from a hand injury.

Captain Jenkins was forced to re-position players to face Bobbets as Royals try to build momentum to stay in promotion territory at the season’s halfway point. Hughes took the reigns in the centre and Brookes jnr moved into attack.

Royals made a hurried start to the game and at times during the opening minutes they lacked their usual finesse, but were competently building the score thanks to the shooting pair Jenkins and Heath.

Going into the second quarter, Royals had seemingly run off their initial nerves and the ball began to flow up the court when turned over by the defence of Clarke, Butler and Brookes.

Bobbets made some tactical substitutions, but Royals’ defence were unfazed by the newcomers, handing more turnover ball to the attack for an accurate Heath to convert. Bobbets made more substitutions in the last quarter and even though Royals made some basic errors in the dying minutes, the game had been put out of reach for Bobbets and Royals cruised to a 53-17 victory.
