Somerset Gryphons Ladies came out second best against Kingsbridge and Salcombe.

Kingsbridge and Salcombe 5

Somerset Gryphons 3

Gryphons suffered another loss at the hands of a physical Kingsbridge team making the most of their home advantage.

Gryphons came out strongly, but Kingsbridge soon stepped up and pressured the midfield, forcing an error that allowed the home team to open the scoring and Gryphons were on the back burner from thereafter.

The game was stopped a number of times while umpiring decisions were questioned, but unfortunately this appeared to fall on deaf ears and Gryphons faced an uphill battle.

Kingsbridge were able to establish a foothold in the game as Gryphons’ heads dropped. Although Amy Homitzky scored two well-worked goals and Elaine Basterfield scored an impressive practised set piece, Gryphons were never going to be able to do enough to change the result and a skilful Kingsbridge team took the three points.

Player of the match was Emma Peacock for excellent composure in right midfield in testing circumstances.
