Visitors take the major prizes at Clevedon ladies’ open bowmaker competition.
SIXTY FIVE competitors from local clubs competed alongside home players at Clevedon’s ladies open bowmaker competition.
Making good use of the fine weather and excellent course conditions, Penny Crymble, Jan Pitcher and Amanda Millington from Long Ashton set the early pace scoring 46 points at the turn.
However, Pat Brew, Phillipa Gillam and Maria McNally from The Bristol were close behind and a sound back nine saw this trio run out eventual winners on countback with 86 points.
Earlier, David and Lillian Peel headed the leader board at the Worlebury mixed open scoring a commendable 48 points, with another Clevedon pair, Alan and Dianne Rennell finishing in second place.
Ladies open results - winners: Pat Brew, Phillipa Gillam and Maria McNally (The Bristol) 86 pts (countback); Penny Crymble, Jan Pitcher and Amanda Millington (Long Ashton) 86; first home team: Sue Liddeatt, Mirella Wilmot and Jacqui Toogood.
Longest drive (bronze): Heather Bleach; nearest the pin (bronze): Jo Hobbs (Long Ashton); longest drive (silver): Pat Jones (Orchardleigh); nearest the pin (silver): Mandy Hobbs (Farrington).
