Golf: Vickerstaff defends title at Clevedon

John Vickerstaff retained the over-55 men's club championship at Clevedon with a gross score of 74.
Vickerstaff opened with five pars, but dropped shots on the sixth, seventh and eighth holes before making birdie at the ninth.
And a fine back nine of six pars, two birdies and only one dropped shot saw him finish ahead of David Shields, as Mike Wake took third place and the trophy for the lowest nett score of the day with 66.
A total of 26 teams took part in the Ladies Open bowmaker, with the two best scores counting.
Clevedon's Hilda Shields, Alison Hodgson, Gaynor Richards and Sarah Derrick won with 91 points, while Sandy Hill, Alison Leatt, Sue Liddeatt and Janet Jamieson were the top visitors with 88.
Clevedon's Marian Crewe, Rosemary Fife, Rose Hargreaves and Liz Hale also scored 88 points.
Meanwhile, James Sharrod won the midweek stableford with 43, ahead of Darren Walker (42) and Louis Doe (41).
