Rain causes postponement at Clevedon

Heavy rain disrupted competitions at Clevedon Golf Club.

The wet weather finally got in the way of the competitions at Clevedon Golf Club, with the committee deciding to postpone the Saturday greensomes in order to protect the course.

Before that, while some other courses were closed, the ladies’ and senior sections did get to play their team events.

The ladies’ bowmaker was won by Sandra Sharp, Heather Priestley and Avril Thomas with a combined total of 79 points. They were pushed all the way by Sue Bamford, Susie Gibbins and Jacqui Toogood, who fell away slightly towards the end, finishing on 77.

The seniors’ bowmaker saw Ron Angell, Gordon Ogden and Bernard Druce romp away from the field with an impressive 87 points. Their closest challengers of Paul Smith, John Benjamin and Sandy Kemlo, finishing seven behind with a score of 70.

Results – ladies’ bowmaker: Sandra Sharp, Heather Priestley and Avril Thomas 79 pts; Sue Bamford, Susie Gibbins and Jacqui Toogood 77; Laureen Angell, Sally Anderson and Noreen Conway 74.

Seniors’ bowmaker waltz: Ron Angell. Gordon Ogden and Bernard Druce 87 pts; Paul Smith, John Benjamin and Sandy Kemlo 80; Chris Bellamy, Brian Smith and Paul Jeffery 79.
