Home players took the major honours in Clevedon Golf Club’s annual seniors open event.
ONE hundred and fifty competitors from clubs from as far afield as Falmouth in Cornwall, South Wales and Wiltshire took part in Clevedon’s annual seniors open competition.
Although breezy conditions persisted throughout the day, these failed to blow late starter and home member David Tinker off course. He scored well on the front nine and reached the turn with 22 points.
His good form continued on the back nine and with pars on the final four holes Tinker finished at the top of the leader board with 41 points, well clear of his nearest rivals Stuart Meyrick and Willie Rowlinson, both with 39 points.
Results (Clevedon unless stated) - Division 1 (winner of the Baxter trophy): David Tinker 41 pts; Willie Rowlinson 39. Best visitor: Tony Davies (Wenvoe Castle) 37.
Division 2: Stewart Meyrick; Michael Leatt 37. Best visitor: Richard Wilson (Cotswold Edge) 34. Over-70s (all handicaps): Derek Sutton 35.
