Clevedon Golf Club members enjoyed the sunny conditions and posted some fine scores in the latest medal competition.

The sun came out for the men’s medal competition at Clevedon Golf Club and the fine weather and good course conditions meant some excellent scores were recorded.

Two players, John Vickerstaff and Andrew Creton, both produced four under par nett scores of 68, which were good enough to win Divisions 1 and 2 respectively.

However, their victories were not easily achieved as there were seven players in total just one shot behind on 69. The minor places had to be settled by countback. Richard Tempany took top spot in Division 3 with a round of 73.

Earlier in the week the weather was not so kind as the ladies’ section welcomed visitors to their open bowmaker competition.

The earlier starters certainly endured the worst of the conditions before the rain eventually departed, leaving the competitors to deal with the wet course.

The overall winners were Jacqui Toogood, Sandie Hill and their guest Lindsay Blaver-Mann from Parkstone Golf Club in Dorset. Their total of 76 Stableford points was matched by the team of Lorna Learney, Julie Finch and Lesley Moore, with countback deciding the ultimate winners.

Clevedon Ladies captain Sue Tasker, Sarah Martin and Sally Anderson also relied on countback to win the prize for best home team with a score of 74.

The competition was a great success with 34 teams from across the South West enjoying their day at Clevedon
