Clevedon Golf Club professional Robert Scanlan is leaving the club after 22 years.

CLEVEDON Golf Club professional Robert Scanlan is leaving the club after 22 years.

The club will be having a farewell competition and party on March 14, with members past and present turning up to say thanks and goodbye. Ex-member John Morgan, now gaining a following on Sky Sports and an on-course commentator will be among those taking part.

Ryan Crowley is in the process of refurbishing and restocking the shop and is now fully open for business. Ashley Mansell is currently earning his PGA qualifications and will be working alongside Ryan in the shop..

In a busy week, there were exceptional scores returned in all three competitions which reflect the quality of the playing surface after a difficult winter for the greenstaff.

In the pairs betterball competition, Neil Swift and Tim Aldom were first on the course and set a challenging target score of 49 points. Three pairs came back with 48 points, the best of which were Louis Doe and Paul Haslett, winning on countback from Jon Parker and Colin Simpson, followed by Tony Bradley and Colin McFadden.

The overall winner of the seniors’ Stableford which clinched the Division 2 prize was big-hitting Sandy Kemlo with 41 points. The best score in Division 1 came from past captain Ian Saynor.

Divisonal results - Division 1: Ian Saynor 38 pts, Stephen Coller 37, Chris Bellamy 36. Division 2: Sandy Kemlo 41, David Wright 39, Brian Crewe 38.

The sun shone on the ladies, allowing them to play their Stableford competition in bright but chilly conditions. The overall winner was the fast-improving Linda Reynolds with a score of 36 points. Sandra Jones topped Division 1 with 34, helped along by the scoring birdie twos on two of the three par holes. Marian Crewe was just edged into second place on countback.
