CLEVEDON ladies won the county Rogers Cup, the annual inter-club knockout competition of the Somerset Ladies County Golf Association, by the narrowest of margins (4-3).

Meeting last year’s winners Farrington in the final at Bath, Clevedon took an early lead when Debbie Quinn-Hall won the opening match one up. A determined performance by Sandra Jones against an opponent who regularly out drove her, resulted in the game going down the 19th before Sandra clinched victory.

Following behind, Sue Bamford’s 5 & 4 win was outstanding but the final result was always in the balance until the final match when Carol Kirkwood, able to hold her nerve as she also went down the 19th hole and with her opponent floundering in a bunker, secured the vital win.

The seniors’ mixed open was won by club captain Tim Liddeatt and his wife Sue, scoring 44 points and farther afield Derek and Debbie Quinn-Hall finished at the top of the leaderboard at Wrag Barn’s Mixed Open (41pts).
