The 144th Open Golf Championship has begun at St Andrew’s in Scotland this morning (Thursday), and it will be a very special day for Clevedon golfer Ali Balcombe.

He will tee off at 4.02pm alongside Australian pair Scott Strange and Marcus Fraser in the golfing major.

Ali, who is a member of Clevedon Golf Club, bagged his place in the field alongside Tiger Woods, Jordan Spieth and Phil Mickelson after qualifying for the tournament.

As he is an amateur, Ali has to pay for his own expenses and is unable to claim any prize money.
