Ashley bags another trophy

CLEVEDON Golf Club has produced a number of outstanding players over the years and now Ashley Mansell has joined their ranks with a fine performance this season.
His first success was achieved when, along with Jeremy Larcombe (Burnham and Berrow) the pair won the Somerset County Foursomes after a six hole play-off on an almost sub-zero and windswept links course at Minehead.
Weather for the 36-hole County Championship on his home course was much warmer and Mansell shot a gross 144 to win by the narrowest of margins.
South West Week at Trevose saw Mansell become a regular in the county squad and his performance resulted in him representing Somerset at the English Golf Union County Championship finals at Hunstanton.
Mansell took his own club’s championship in his stride winning for the fourth consecutive time by nine shots and this was followed by success in the Bath Championship.
Participation in the English Amateur Championship at Little Aston provided valuable experience and the season was rounded off when Mansell won the West of England Championship (the Memorial Trophy) at Burnham and Berrow.
Mansell’s aspirations are to continue playing as an amateur, but with an eye on the Pro Tour School in a year’s time.
