Six Clevedon Karate Kai students competed at the Western Karate Union’s National Invitational competition and brought back a full set of medals.

Six students of Clevedon Karate Kai stepped up to show what they could do in the Western Karate Union’s National Invitational competition.

Cassidy Backhouse successfully defended her WKU junior kyu grades kata championship and walked away with the gold medal.

In the same category, there was nearly an all-Clevedon final, as Riley Stevenson was narrowly defeated in the semi-final to take bronze. Callum Backhouse completed the full set for Clevedon with silver in the older students’ kata division.

Riley also competed in the skills display against a kick dummy and there are further honourable mentions for Louis Nolan, who took part in both kumite and kata, and George Guiver and Adam Zagrobelny, the latter on his competitive debut, who both did kata.

Clevedon Karate Kai trains on Fridays in Clevedon, Wednesdays in Tickenham and Mondays in Yatton.
