Wraxall Village Club members liberated their pigeons from Messac in France for their latest race.

WRAXALL Village Club birds were liberated from Messac (France) in good conditions at 8am in their latest race.

The conditions en route worsened with a strong, blustery west/south west wind and isolated showers, however the birds coped well. The winning bird, a yearling which last year had survived an attack by a peregrine falcon, went to the loft of Portishead members Garth and Valerie Watkins, completing the 260 mile flight in five hours, 30 minutes.

16 members sent 154 birds: G & V Watkins 1359 yards per minute (46.33 miles per hour); J Atherton 1357; Wyatt & Gray 1322; P Atherton 1317; N Knight 1314.2; W Stribling 1314.1.
