Nailsea & Tickenham started the pre-season friendly fixtures with an excellent victory over Bridgwater Town.

Nailsea and Tickenham welcomed Toolstation Premier Bridgwater Town to Fryth Way, for the first pre-season run out.

Karl Baggerley and Dave Pearse brought a large squad as they rebuild following last season’s relegation from the Southern League and the first-half started at a good pace with both teams playing fast attacking football.

It was the home side who took the lead on 25 minutes. A Josh Benjamin cross was powered against the bar by Scott Pilgrim, with Leigh White reacting first to finish past Viney.

Bridgwater rang the changes at half-time, bringing on Howson and Camper in attack, but the back line of Gale, Patterson, Cook and Wallington held firm, while keeper Mellor was seldom troubled.

Cook doubled the lead on the hour, heading home a Latta corner. The tireless running of Sealey and Matt Pilgrim gave the Bridgwater defence constant problems. The victory was sealed on 85 minutes when young debutant Joe Collins struck a shot from 25 yards that flew into the top corner.

An excellent result and performance for the Swags, who entertain Clevedon Town tomorrow night (Thursday), 7pm kick-off.
