Portville Warriors returned to action with a 5-1 drubbing of Miners.

Miners 1

Portville Warriors 5

AFTER a couple for weeks off, Portville Warriors returned to action with an away trip to Miners.

Portville controlled the game from the off and should have had the game wrapped up inside 20 minutes, but Van Papantoniou, Paul Ford, and Adam Scrase all wasted good opportunities.

The deadlock was broken shortly after when a ball played up to Ford by Turner was flicked on to Nick Chapman, whose cross-cum-shot flew into the far top corner of the net.

Just before the break, Portvile doubled their lead when a long throw into the box by Craig Turner was helped on by Mark Skidmore to Papantoniou, who turned and fired home.

Portville started the second half slowly and Miners pulled a goal back just before the hour mark. Ten minutes later, Portville’s two-goal cushion was restored when a Ashley Tweedy corner was headed home in emphatic fashion by Sam Jones.

Portville added a further two goals in the last 10 minutes, their fourth goal created by Papantoniou when Jones played a ball down the line, Papantoniou cut into the box and pulled the ball back to Tweedy who unleashed a shot which flew into the bottom corner.

The fifth and final goal came in injury time when another long throw into the box, this time by Gary Hunt, was flicked on by Turner and stabbed home by Papantoniou from close range.

Man of the match was Nick Chapman.
