NAILSEA Town made the long trip to Errea Somerset County League Division 1
promotion rivals Ilminster, who have been formidable at home all season and came away with a valuable point in their quest for promotion to the Premier Division.

In an open game, chances came and went for both sides but the game remained
scoreless until the second half when
Ilminster scored after the Town defence failed to clear a cross.

Just as it looked like it was all up for Town, an Ilminster defender unfortunately handled in the penalty area in the dying seconds and the resulting penalty was duly dispatched with his usual aplomb by Mike Purnell.

Whilst Town dropped two points, they were up against a team that had won 11 of their 13 home games this season, so the result has to be regarded as a point gained rather than two lost.

Nailsea’s next match is a midweek game against Fry Club at Fryth Way tonight (Wed), kick off 6.30pm.
