BACKWELL Athletic Under-14 girls were unlucky to lose 3-2 to last season’s league winners in an exciting Bristol Girls League encounter.

Longwell Green took the lead at the end of an even first-half, but Backwell hit back immediately with a fine finish from Megan Harding after a long run and cross from Chloe Taylor.

Backwell started to get on top during the second half, playing some fine football and deservedly took the lead when Ellie Bray latched on to a good through ball from Kierra Greenslade and hit an unstoppable shot past the keeper.

Further good chances came and went for Backwell, but Longwell equalised with an excellent 25 yard free kick into the top corner against the run of play. The winner came in the last minute after a scramble in the area, the Longwell centre-forward poking in from close range.

Abby Bray was outstanding at the back for Backwell.
