A BRACE from Chris Greenslade and goals from Mike Banks and Dan Huxtable ensured a comfortable passage through to the semi-final of the Atwell Shield for Clevedon.

A poor pitch saw the early stages of the match turn into a physical battle with no passing game being played, but it was the visitors who emerged on top and forced the play from then on with Greenslade, Banks and Ben Pavey all having chances to put their side ahead.

Against the run of play, Congresbury took the lead when a poor clearance gifted their forward a clean shot at goal. United’s response was immediate as Greenslade fired home, beating his marker to the ball after the keeper had parried Max James’s fierce shot.

Greenslade then turned provider early in the second half as his low cross was met by Banks with a first time volley from the edge of the box to take the lead.

The hosts upped their game but Clevedon continued to dominate the play and contested every ball. A quick counter attack from United saw Dan Huxtable play a neat one-two with Banks before he coolly steered the ball round the keeper.

The rout was completed when Greenslade turned the ball in from close range after Craig Manson had won a towering header from a corner.
