UNITED played host to Division 1 Frome Collegians in the quarter-finals of the Somerset Senior Cup.

Nailsea with regular back four members Russ Driver and James Taylor missing fielded the experienced Ellis Willmot in the starting line up.

Nailsea had early chances through Stuart Lee and took the lead in the 35th minute when Mark Wallington’s pass was well finished by Jim Lee.

Nailsea were grateful to keeper Luke Davies when Frome threatened five minutes before the break. United immediately responded with James Springett set Jim Lee away only to see his shot go wide.

The second half started with Jim Lee’s shot hitting the side netting. On 65 minutes a powerful shot from Matt Long cannoned off of the bar with the Frome keeper well beaten.

Nailsea brought on young Alex Goodwin to replace Stuart Lee, releasing Ryan King to play in a more forward position. Nailsea continued to have the greater possession which saw Jim Lee’s header tipped over the bar by the busy Frome custodian.

With the end of normal time in sight Ben Ricketts replaced the impressive Matt Long who had worked tirelessly in mid field.

Well into injury time, Frome had a golden opportunity to take the match into extra time, but Luke Davies reacted quickly to see Nailsea over the line and into the semi-finals.
