Ashton & Backwell United are looking forward to Saturday’s game against Cribbs in a top of the table clash.

ASHTON & Backwell United’s game at Corsham Town on Saturday fell foul to the heavy rain, leaving manager Richard Coombes feeling frustrated.

He said: “We normally train together as a whole club, but the reserves had a midweek game at Bishop Sutton (which they won 4-0), so it allowed me to work on specific roles with just the first team in preparation of the visit to Corsham.”

However, the good work will not go to waste as he now looks forward to this Saturday’s home game at the Lancer Scott Stadium as fourth-placed Backwell welcome Cribbs, who are third.

Coombs went on: “This should be a really good game and a win could take us to within three points of a promotion place with 11 games to play.

“It promises to be an entertaining game with both sides among the leading goal scorers in the Toolstation League, a local derby and a lot at stake. I hope a few more local people will come to Saturday’s game and cheer us on.”

Kick-off is at 3pm.
