Archant

The Swiss Valley Rangers under-12 girls were edged out 3-1 by Ashton Girls, who took over at the top of the league table.

Katie made her SVR debut in goal and was later voted player of the match by her team-mates, as Amelia shone at centre-back.

Poppy and Nya impressed on the wings, while Xara, Maggie and Ava worked hard in midfield.

Jas and Ella W led the SVR attack, but Ashton broke the deadlock just before half time with a long range shot.

Ella B, Fern and Libby provided fresh legs for SVR in the second half and Ava played a perfect pass for Ella W to run on a slot home her 24th goal of the season to level.

Ashton regained the lead when a powerful shot hit the underside of the crossbar and was adjudged to have crossed the line.

And although Ella W, Jas and Ava looked for a reply for hard-working SVR, Ashton broke out to seal their win with five minutes left.
