SVR girls under-12s battled back to a superb 6-6 draw with second-placed Weston Mendip on their return to action after the previous weekend’s snow.

They conceded twice early on, despite the best efforts of Poppy, Nyah and Maggie in defence, as midfielders Libby and Ava were outnumbered.

Captain Ella managed a reply, but SVR were 5-1 down at half time, before a rousing team talk inspired a fightback.

Xara moved into central midfield, as Nancy replaced Amelia in goal to leave Ella and Jas in attack.

Ella scored early, before Jas struck twice to cut the gap to one with 15 minutes left.

Ava’s long-range shot then looped in to level it, before Ella ran down the right to net her hat-trick goal to put SVR 6-5 up.

And Fern, Amelia and Nya kept Weston at bay until the final seconds when they scrambled home a last-gasp equaliser to ensure the points were shared at the end of an entertaining game.
