Portishead Town gave their Toolstation Western League Division One survival hopes another boost with a 2-0 win over Sherborne Town.

After a draw with Chard Town, as rival teams picked up points, they began brightly as Alex O’Keeffe and James Steele went close.

Al Harington tested the Sherborne keeper from long range, before Now or Never Fitness man of the match Nathan Trueman found Steele to skip past two tackles and fire home on 25 minutes.

The visitors saw their manager sent from the dugout after a clash with Oli Henery, before Mike Ley’s point-blank save denied them an equaliser.

Portishead sealed the points on 75 minutes when Harrington’s corner was headed goalwards by Alex Chapman and prodded home by Trueman.

Manager Alan Tyers said: “We have more points this season than last. We didn’t have the best of starts but fought tooth and nail in the second half of the season.”
