Portishead Juniors Under-13s reached the Somerset Cup final after defeating Clevedon United 6-2.

Portishead Juniors Under-13s defeat near neighbours Clevedon United 6-2 in a Somerset Cup semi-final tie.

These teams play at a high level in different leagues so an intriguing tie was on the cards.

Clevedon started brighter as Portishead nervously tried to settle into the game and nabbed the important first goal. This woke up the Portishead team and they quickly got into the game when Rueben’s cross-shot edged over the line.

This in turn made Clevedon more determined and, while Portishead sat deep, they launched waves of attacks culminating in a fine team goal.

The defensive trio of Charlie, Will and Harry did well to repel the quickfire attacks and Eddie in goal was kept on his toes. Portishead persevered with their attacking formation and slowly played their way into form with Alfie, Finlay, James and Otis pressing the Clevedon defenders.

The pressure paid off and an equaliser soon followed when Finlay rifled in an exquisite shot and Otis blasted in the goal-keepers fingertip clearance taking us into fulltime level at 2-2 with all to play for.

After the break, the chances started to fall to the fresh legs of Ryan and the Portishead attack. The pressure paid off with Kris breaking the deadlock and putting Portishead in front for the first time.

Ryan scored a wonderful goal and James took his shooting chance superbly to seemingly make the game safe at 5-2, before a well-placed strike from Kris made it 6-2.

Portishead Town JFC would like to thank our kit sponsors blackstarsolutions.co.uk, the cheering throng and now face Chilcompton in the final.

The club is actively recruiting players for next season who would relish the challenge of the Avon Youth League Division 1 (and cup runs!). Please contact mark@mangoconsulting.co.uk for more information.
