Portishead Town Under-13 Girls finished as runners-up to Cheltenham Spa Reds Under-14 in the plate final of the Bishops Cleeve Colts Festival of Football, losing to an extra time bullet header from the Reds’ captain.
In qualifying for their final, the girls were only beaten once, by eventual winners (2-1). Portishead made progress through a combination of slick passing, free scoring and sound defence.
The goals were shared between Emily Edwards (6), Keiana Jones (4), Katie Henderson (3) and Catherine Southern (1), with Kiera Howse coming agonisingly close to joining the scorers.
The defence of Romia Nash, Kim Parker and Phoebe Delafaille in goal kept four clean sheets, the highlight being a triple save against local rivals AEK Boco in the drawn final qualifier.
