North Somerset Regional Talent Centre’s under-11 and under-13s competed in the prestigious East Mallorca Cup recently.

The youngsters headed to Spain for 'once in a lifetime incredible experience' in search of silverware and the under-11s reached the quarter finals.

Having played RCD Mallorca, Ipiranga from Brazil and a local Spanish side, they were drawn against Barcelona!

The under-13s also had a succesfull tournament and reached the quarter finals.

They were in the same group as Italians Inter Milan, who defeated them 3-0, and Dutch team FC Utrecht, who beat them 2-0.

Despite the two losses, the under-13s qualified for the knockout stages against Valencia, but the Spanish opposition beat them 4-0.

Steve Arney, services manager for North Somerset, said: "It was a great experience and an honour for our players to play against some amazing professional academy sides, things that only dreams are made of."

With the new season fast approaching, the North Somerset youth sides who play in the Junior Premier League have asked boys and girls from under-nines to under-16s to sign up for a trial at www.nsfootball.co.uk.
