Clevedon United Reserves striker Mike Banks scores twice to send his team through to the next round of the Atwell Shield.

MIKE Banks’ two goals either side of
half-time were enough to see off Cheddar A in a one-sided Atwell Shield match.

The scoreline for United should have been more positive had the composure in front of goal been better. With several players
missing, United had the opportunity to play other squad members with.

Marc Welch created a glorious chance for Nick Lee to head home, but he somehow
managed to fire over the bar. Banks then drilled a ball at the near post and Luke Hyde fired over the bar from three yards.

Banks then showed how to finish as he
collected the ball on the edge of the box and curled his shot past the keeper with an
instinctive finish.

A quick restart for the second half saw
Clevedon double their lead within minutes. Ben Pavey broke from deep and his run down the line saw him put a ball in behind the defence for Banks, who beat the advancing keeper with ease.

United had further chances to extend the lead, but the game had lost its momentum, but with strong performances from Nick Austin, Ady Price, Hyde and Jamie Dimond in the
second half, it was enough to see out the game.
