Portishead Town Ladies took all three points against Cheltenham Civil Service in a tough encounter.

Portishead Town Ladies earned three hard-fought points against Cheltenham Civil Service Ladies.

Although Portishead had the majority of the play, they struggled to break down a stubborn defence. Michelle Venton hit the bar from a free kick outside the box, but Portishead could not manage to follow up the rebound.

Portishead finally broke the deadlock in the 24th minute when Taylor Gainey’s corner was headed in by Hannah Thornton.

Cheltenham started the second half with more determination and had their best period of the match although could not create any clear cut chances.

Midway through the half, another fine Gainey corner was volleyed in by Ruby Lowe and following another period of sustained pressure, Lowe scored her second with a shot from outside the penalty area which squeezed past the keeper at the near post.

Robert John Hairdressers players of the match were Georgia Rawlinson and Nat Zajaczkowski.
