Portishead hosted Wincanton and picked up their first points of the season.
After recently improving performances, were rewarded after less than two minutes. The returning Jake Keedwell breezed past the Wincanton left back and swung in a delightful cross which allowed James Hughes to climb high and steer a header into the bottom corner.
The home side continued to press well and were enjoying the majority of possession, with Keedwell and Hughes offering plenty of options out wide. However on 20 minutes the away side drew level, when their right winger ran at the defending Lott, before cutting inside and hitting a deflected shot into the corner past Gillingham in goal.
After this setback, the home side continued to be the better team and as the half wore on, Posset were rewarded for their dominance when Robbie Cox and Sam Trueman combined well, resulting in Trueman striking a shot from 12 yards, which was blocked and deflected into the air, as the ball fell, Cox hit an unstoppable volley.
After the break, Portishead had three glorious changes, with Elliot Shipway missing two chances when through on goal.
It looked like the home side would pay for missing their chances, as Wincanton were awarded a penalty which levelled the scores.
It was Trueman who finally won the game for the home side. With Alex O’Keefe causing problems down the right, he cut back and whipped a ball into the box and Trueman coolly slotted the ball into the bottom right for a 3-2 lead with five minutes to play.
The home side managed to see out the last few minutes of the game with little alarm, the defence and midfield standing strong, with plenty of passion and desire to pick up the points.
Portishead face a tough challenge on Saturday as they travel to current league leaders Chard.
