PORTVILLE Warriors sent out a statement to the rest of the league with an emphatic win over unbeaten Mendip United.

Portville took the lead within two minutes when Nick Chapman released Paul Ford who pulled the ball back across goal for Van Papantoniou to score.

Portville had goalkeeper Matthew Smyth to thank after he stopped the home side equalising with a fine save. Portville went two up when Josh Latham’s pass was collected by Van Papantoniou, who crossed for Ashley Tweedy to net.

Van Papantoniou grabbed his second of the game and put Portville 3-0 up when he intercepted a back pass. Tweedy ended the first-half scoring after good work by Chapman.

After the break, Van Papantoniou completed his hat-trick, who then set up Tweedy to complete his treble.

The home side pulled a goal back 10 minutes from time, but Portville responded instantly and made it 7-1 from the penalty spot, Sam Jones slotting home. The Warriors wrapped up the scoring when man of the match Tweedy netted his fourth of the game.

Attentions now turn to the GFA Cup as they host Avonmouth at the Hand Stadium, Clevedon (2pm kick-off).
