Archant

A below-par Ashton & Backwell United slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Corsham Town in their Division One clash.

With Saul Jarrett absent, the Stags seemed subdued and struggled to create chances despite having the lion’s share of possession.

The hosts opened the scoring on 11 minutes when John Bright found Chevolleau, who made no mistake.

And the same pair linked up again eight minutes before the break when Harry Walker’s mistake allowed Bright to play a long ball to Chevolleau to round Lewis Coombes and slot home.

Coombes puched out a Dan King free-kick, while Bright hit a post just before the interval, and Coombes saved from Bright after he combined with Leigh Rogers in the second half.

The visitors saw man of the match Dan Elson head Calum Townsend’s cross straight at keeper Clatworthy, who also saved from Townsend late on.

Ashton & Backwell: Coombes, Devoy (Saunders 86), Walker, Joe Bishop, Biggins, White (Jones 46), Thomas, Hardidge, Elson, Townsend, Flower (Press 71). Unused sub: Jordan Bishop.
