Clevedon Town slip to defeat at the Hand

Clevedon Town were beaten 4-1 at home to Wimborne Town.

CLEVEDON Town slipped to a disappointing home defeat against Wimborne Town, gaining some consolation after being 4-0 down at the break.
The visitors’ started at a fast pace and hit the post in the second minute before they took the lead three minutes later when the ball was played through the middle to Jon Blake who smashed the ball over Kane Mannings in the home goal.
Clevedon had a great opportunity to equalise when a long ball from the back by Gary Saunders found Troy Budd, who managed to hold off the defender and slip the ball past the advancing Jason Harvell in the Wimborne goal, but the ball ran the wrong side of the post.
On 21 minutes, a quick throw-in resulted in the ball being played through to Matt Gamble and he volleyed the ball into the net to double the advantage.
Things got worse for the home side on 24 minutes when Gamble picked the ball up on the edge of the box and beat one defender before taking the ball around Mannings and netting.
From the restart, Clevedon played the ball through to Ben Bament, whose shot was blocked and ran to Jamie Adams on the penalty spot who looked certain to score, before a great challenge cleared the ball.
Five minutes before the break, Gamble received the ball and in a carbon copy of the third goal completed his hat-trick to make the score 0-4.
Wimborne started the second half as they had the first and straight from the kick-off, the ball was played to Luke Holmes, whose shot rebounded off the post.
Clevedon came more into the game as the half progressed and on 65 minutes substitute Tim Parker was played through, but Harvell was quickly out to claim the ball.
On 74 minutes, Kye Mountford set up Adams, but his snap shot went just wide of the far post.
Clevedon got some reward four minutes later when Parker curled the ball around Harvell and into the far corner of the net to make it 1-4 and Adams’ shot in the last minute went just wide of the post.
