They had to overcome the loss of Tyler Ashmead in the warm-up, after he suffered a gashed leg in the cup loss to Paulton, with Ethan Feltham coming into the starting line-up.

The visitors saw Sam Wentland curl a free-kick into the arms of Sam Blackiston on 11 minutes, before Rhys Hodgson cut into the box and fired wide of the far post.

Clevedon’s first shot on target came on 27 minutes when Lucas Vowles curled a free-kick around the wall and Josh Dempsey made a good save low down.

Five minutes later, Nathan Legge delivered a cross from the left for the visitors, which Wentland headed over.

Clevedon went close again five minutes before the break when Archie Ferris found Feltham, who cut into the box and saw his shot saved by the feet of Dempsey.

But a corner by Legge was headed over by Wentland at the other end, before Ryan Radford forced Blackiston into a diving save.

Elliot Nicholson and Ferris combined to tee up Alex Camm, whose shot was blocked, and Feltham forced Dempsey into a fine save as the half ended goalless.

The second half was less than a minute old when Vowles was played through and saw a shot saved by Dempsey before firing the rebound over.

Blackiston had a clearance blocked by Hodgson, who fired over, before Clevedon’s Will Mann found Feltham, who set up Camm for an attempt well saved by Dempsey.

The only goal arrived on 55 minutes when Feltham swapped passes with Nicholson, cut into the box and forced a Dempsey save, before Ferris found Vowles to tap home.

Hodgson fired just wide for the visitors on 74 minutes, while Vowles had a shot easily saved and sent another great chance over with two minutes left.

But Roman Glass almost snatched an equaliser in the last minute as Ryan Dunn’s dangerous cross was cleared by Glen Hayer.

Clevedon are set to play host to Bridport at the Everyone Active Stadium on Saturday (3pm).

Clevedon: Blackiston, Nicholson, Camper, Kingdon, Hayer, Mann, Feltham, Smith, Ferris, Camm (Holden 81), Vowles. Unused subs: Wallis, Ashmead.
