For the second home game in a row, Clevedon Town completed the double over their visitors with a superb first half performance that saw them three goals ahead at the break.

The heavy rain that had fallen prior to the game failed to impact the excellent playing surface and the home side made the perfect start when they took the lead on five minutes.

Archie Ferris cut inside and let fly from 25 yards and with Cribbs keeper Jack Feighan rooted to the spot, the ball rebounded off the post and into the net.

Buoyed by the early goal, levedon went searching for more with Lucas Vowles going close before Tyler Ashmead’s shot was blocked. The rebound fell to Syd Camper who smashed the ball across Jack Feighan and into the top corner.

The visitors pulled a goal back from the penalty spot after an excellent save by Sam Blackiston saw Sol Wanjou-Smith pick up the rebound before he was brought down by Camper. Charlie Aldom netted the resultant penalty.

Two minutes later and the two-goal lead was restored. Ashmead’s strong run saw him get to the touch-line before cutting back and crossing for Vowles to nod the ball into the net.

Further chances fell to Ferris, Sam Holden, skipper Callum Kingdon and Harry Smith’s 30-yard rocket flew narrowly wide on 43 minutes before the home side scored again two minutes later.

A poor clearance by Jack Feighan went straight to Danny Lock who played the ball through for Vowles to slot the ball past the advancing keeper and into the net.

Clevedon made the perfect start to the second half when they scored again on 48 minutes. Holden’s corner was cleared to Smith and his 25-yard screamer flew into the top corner of the net to make the score 5-1.

Another Holden corner was met by Glen Hayer whose goal-bound header was cleared off the line. Four minutes later and the visitors pulled a goal back when the visitors broke out to beat Blackiston.

Vowles had three chances to complete his hat-trick, but unfortunately could not convert them. Clevedon almost got the sixth two minutes into stoppage time when Camper hit the outside of the post.

Clevedon registered their 12th win of the season and consolidated their fifth place in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division.
