Clevedon United Under-13 Girls lost to Purnell in a match that was closer than the scoreline suggests.
A great game of football saw the Clevedon United Under-13s Girls lose 3-1 to Purnell, although the match was closer than the scoreline might suggest.
Clevedon started brightly with some good interplay as they attacked down the flanks with great work from the midfield of Maria, Aimee, Phoebe and Holly, while the attack of Leah, Maisy, Iva and Rosie caused all sorts of problems for the Purnell team.
However, Purnell held firm and were able to clear the attacks and their keeper pulled off a couple of great saves from Iva’s flying shots.
The teams went in 0-0 at half-time and Clevedon looked good for a win.
Purnell had other plans though and came out with intent. It was Clevedon’s turn to defend and Evie, Eleni, Abi, Tia, with Roseanna in goal, held firm.
However, as the Clevedon girls tired against their particularly large opponents, Purnell scored three goals.
After goal number three, Clevedon woke up and turned the screw on Purnell and Leah managed to burst through the Purnell defensive line to score a well-taken goal.
Clevedon continued to pile on the pressure in waves, but could not get the final touch into goal, but the performance from the girls was first class.
