Ashton & Backwell United’s young side have enjoyed a busy pre-season schedule as they prepare for the new season.

Ashton & Backwell United’s new management team of Paul Waring and Richard Ford are determined to give their young side the best preparation possible for the forthcoming season in the Toolstation Western League with a series of challenging pre-season friendlies against some attractive opposition.

The Stags host Southern League Mangotsfield United on Saturday, kick-off 3pm. The programme is completed with matches against Nailsea United on July 27 (home at 7pm), away to Totterdown United on July 29 and another home game at the Lancer Scott Stadium against Western League Premier champions and newly promoted to the Southern League, Bristol Manor Farm on August 1 (7pm).

Waring said: “The players have responded brilliantly to our suggestion of starting training in early June, the attendance figures have been higher than previous seasons, the improved fitness levels were clearly evident in last week’s 3-1 win against Wick from the Gloucester County League.

“We are confident this tougher programme will reflect in performances when the season starts on August 5.”
