Ashton and Backwell clinch youth floodlit title.

ASHTON and Backwell United secured the point they needed at second placed Bristol Manor Farm, to clinch the Somerset Floodlight Youth League, North Division title.

The hard fought 0-0 draw was played out in front of a large crowd with both sets of supporters knowing that a victory would be enough to see their respective club crowned champions at the end of the game.

United’s 2-0 win the previous week at Portishead Town had, however, put them in the driving seat and the back four of Ade Harvey, Calum Biggins, Joe Brimble and Jack Taylor were resolute throughout and never allowed the Farm a clear shot at goal.

Ashton and Backwell United, formed just last
summer with the merger of Backwell United and Ashton Boys, were delighted to win the new club’s first piece of silverware.

With the first team already looking forward to a Somerset County League Cup final in May and
contesting the Somerset County FA, Senior Cup
semi-final this weekend, they hope there will be further cause for celebration before the season
closes.
