Ashon & Backwell held off a late Bristol Telephones fightback to go third in the Toolstation Western League Division One table and make it nine games unbeaten.
Sam Thomas opened the scoring with the visitors' first shot on target, as he tapped in from Paul Uppington's pass.
George Jones got the second after he shot into the right hand corner and got his second when he slotted home after good work from Uppington.
Goals from Luke Banfield and Zak Meadows set up a grandstand finish but the Stags came away with victory.
Stuart Jones's men started the game well and took the lead in the 12th minute from a free-kick.
Harry Walker took the set-piece and found Uppington, who knocked it down into the path of Thomas to leave the midfielder with an easy finish.
The hosts had their first shot on targe in the 27th minute when Phones skipper Golding went close with a header before their task was made harder five minutes when Ashton & Backwell made it 2-0.
The ball lopped up in the box and Jones was there to take it down before firing home into the right hand corner.
The back five of Billy Devoy, Jacob Spence, Tom Press, Charlie and Walker provided solid defence and after a fine run Walker cut in to find Uppington, who could only see his shot scrape the upright.
However the away side did make it three in the 68th minute, after more good work from Uppington, who fed the ball through to Jones. With the Phones defence calling for offside, the forward kept calm and his composure to finish well and put Jones's men in a commanding posistion.
However, after a double substitution left the visitors unsettled, a slip by Press let in substitute Banfield to pick up the loose ball and beat Lewis Coombes with ease in the 83rd minute.
A second Phones goal followed moments later after defensive effor left Meadows free to slot home but Coombes was the hero as the home team almost capped a fantatsic comeback as his diving save kept out Dawid Regula at the base of the post to deny Shaun Collins's men a point.
The result sees Ashton & Backwell one point off Calne Town in top spot as they travel to Welton Rovers on Saturday.
