Backwell Swimming club member Florence Davis sets a new club record.

SEVEN of Backwell’s top swimmers competed against opposition from as far away as the Midlands and the Isle of Wight in the traditional Easter Open Meet hosted by Weston Swimming Club.

They were looking to achieve personal best times and if possible regional qualifying times for the forthcoming 2011 regional championships in June.

Top breaststroker 11-year-old Florence Davis was in great form setting personal best times in all of her events, achieving a regional qualifying time in the 200m I/M and breaking the club record for the same event. She now holds two regional qualifying times for the 2011 championships which is a tremendous achievement.

14-year-old Marcus Gardiner matched Davis when he achieved his regional qualifying time and a silver medal in the 100m breaststroke event in a new personal best.

Backstroke specialist Louisa Emery (13), set a new club record for the 200m event taking two seconds off her previous best. Exciting backstrokers 12-year-old Nicole Cameron and 11-year-old Mollie Simmons both set new personal best times for the same event with Simmons also setting new best times for the 50m backstroke and 100m I/M.

There were courageous swims too from 12-year-old Ciara Halpin and an injured 15-year-old Katie O’Malley.
