Wraxall Village Club’s first-ever race for 2015 bred birds took place from Lyndhurst in the New Forest.

Wraxall Village Club’s first-ever race for 2015 bred birds took place when the birds were liberated from Lyndhurst (New Forest).

They were fortunate with the weather conditions, especially considering the torrential rain seen across the country either side of race day. The young birds found the new experience a little daunting, and some members found them returning much later than expected.

The winning bird, however, owned by Portishead members Jackie & Nick Stone, completed the 62-mile flight in 103 minutes. Another Portishead member, Pete Atherton, enjoyed a good race with his birds taking the next four positions.

Seven members sent 152 birds: J & N Stone 1052 yards per minute; P Atherton 1024, 1017, 1004, 1004; J & N Stone 999.
