Chris Prevett from Portishead has recently returned from Australia with a gold medal at the Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championships.

Portishead fencer Chris Prevett has recently returned from competing in the Commonwealth Veterans Fencing Championships in Canberra, Australia.

After finishing in fifth place overall in the men’s sabre event, Chris fenced off for and won the gold medal for the highest placed 60-69-year-old before taking part in the team event the following day when he won a silver medal with the England team, losing narrowly to Australia in the final.

Chris, aged 64, who had a second hip replacement only a year ago and works part-time for F H Halliday funeral directors in Portishead, was extremely pleased with his performance.

He fences for and is chairman of Salle Hunt-Roeder in Bristol, which specialises in sabre under coach Dennis Hunt.
