Clevedon Town travelled to Fairfax Park to take on Bridgwater Town and went down to a 3-1 defeat to bring an end to their seven-match unbeaten run.

On a difficult playing surface, the home side were the first to show with Mike Duffy and former Seasider Syd Camper going close. Clevedon replied with efforts from Tyler Ashmead and Liam Dempsey.

Bridgwater took the lead on 25 minutes. A long ball over the top appeared to offer little concern to the visitors’ defence, but as Damien Freeman came out to catch the ball Bridgwater’s Jack Taylor managed to nip in and nod the ball over the keeper and roll the ball into an empty net.

Clevedon had a chance to get back on level terms in the 30th minute when a corner by Alex Russell was met by Tom Baker, but his bullet-header flew over the bar and soon after Russell shot just wide of the post.

Bridgwater doubled their lead on 36 minutes. Camper crossed into the box where the ball deflected off a Clevedon head and fell at the feet of Jack Jenkins who made the score 2-0.

The home side scored again in the 45th minute. Camper’s through ball found Jack Taylor and as Freeman came out to narrow the angle, the Bridgwater man lobbed the ball over the keeper and into the net.

Amazingly the scoring hadn’t finished with Clevedon managing to pull a goal back in the second minute of injury time. Morgan Williams ran into the box and saw his shot blocked, but the Clevedon youngster was the quickest to react and managed to force the rebound in off the post to make the half-time score 3-1.

After the break, chances fell to Ashmead, Ryan Gissing and Lucas Vowles, but the visitors could not find a breakthrough.

A Russell cross in the 82nd minute found Williams, but he could not get sufficient on his header to trouble the home defence. Three minutes later and an Ashmead cross found the same player in the box, but his shot was saved.

Clevedon are next in action on Saturday when Buckland Athletic visit The Everyone Active Stadium with a 3pm kick-off.
