Congresbury under-19s fell 15 runs short of victory when they played Weston Super Kings in front of a packed King George V Playing Field writes Josh Thomas.

On a warm Friday evening, Weston won the toss, elected to bat andcame out in an aggressive manner, despite losing captain Kruz Belcher for just two.

Jack Press (43), Alex Leeks (29) and Davis Trego (21) all played fluently to lead Weston to a formidable 151-9 in their 20 overs.

With several of the usual Congresbury side not available much rested on the batting of Jack Kearns and he did not disappoint, striking five fours and one six in his swashbuckling knock.

However, with Kearns on 34 an extravagant reverse sweep off Jodie Filer saw him adjudged lbw swinging the game in Weston's favour.

Wickets tumbled until Will Eyres came to the crease with his side requiring nearly 90 to win and set about the Weston bowling with vigour, thrashing several boundaries.

Some loose Weston bowling and great batting by Eyres and Saskia Lawrence meant the hosts required less than 20 from the final two overs.

Unfortunately, Eyres (44) was run out going for a second run with the score on 136, leaving Weston to come away with a thrilling win.
