Backwell Flax notch up another victory after gaining promotion the previous week.

ALTHOUGH assured of promotion after last weeks results, Backwell Flax first team did not let up against Larkhall.

Winning the toss, Backwell captain Tim Martin put Larkhall in to bat and they were soon 57-7 against some fine Flax bowing, particularly Matt Joyce who took 3-3 from his eight overs. He was well supported by Jarman (2-10), Acreman (2-24) and Ben Walters taking the other wicket to fall.

Roger Griffith (39) and Gary Bartlett (38 not out) with a stand of 51 took Larkhall 118-8 from their 40 overs.

Martin and Mick Lemare (33) set the tone of the Backwell Flax reply in a stand of 55. Martin with four fours and two sixes in his 54 not out saw his side to victory in just 22 overs.

n Backwell Flax 2nd XI opened the batting against Kilmersdon needing a win in their relegation fight. Ben Walters (29), Adam Watts (51) and Mick Lemare put Backwell Flax in a strong position scoring the majority of the runs in a total of 171-7.

Backwell were indebted to their experienced spinners Steve Curnow (3-26) and David Lloyd (2-11) to keep tight rein on the Kilmersdon batsmen.

Youngsters Sam Flowers and Charlie Heywood mopped up the
Kilmersdon tail to dismiss them for 77.
