Failand & Portbury defeat Barrow Gurney by 42 runs in a low-scoring encounter.

Failand & Portbury managed to beat Barrow Gurney is a low-scoring encounter.

Winning the toss on a flat batting track, Failand were undone by James Riley’s (5-32) quick swing bowling.

Together with some questionable shots, they limped to just 100 all out with little resistance from any of the batsmen, managing to creep to just three figures from just 27 overs.

In reply, with no choice but to attack from ball one, skipper Mark Day (1-19) and Sam Buckley (7-30) set about ripping through the top order of the home side.

At one stage, Failand managed eight maidens on the trot, claiming two wickets. Some superb accurate bowling from Matt Asquith (2-4), saw Barrow never get out of the pressure zone as they were bowled out for 58.

A famous victory puts Failand back on the promotion trail.
