PORTISHEAD Cricket Club start their indoor nets for the new season on March 28 until April 18 at the Downs School, Wraxall (8-9.30pm).

PORTISHEAD Cricket Club start their indoor nets for the new season on March 28 until April 18 at the Downs School, Wraxall (8-9.30pm).

The club welcomes any new members and if you are interested please contact Adrian Fishman on 07843 289578 or Robin Thomas on 07743 438732. Portishead play in the Senior Division of the Bristol and District League throughout the season and friendlies on Sundays and some midweek games.

The club also has a strong youth section and run training and teams throughout the season. Training for Under-9s is on Fridays 5-6pm, Under-11s (Mondays) 5.45-6.45pm, Under-13s (Mondays) 6.45-7.45pm, Under-15s (Wednesdays) 5.45-6.45pm and Under-17s (Wednesdays) 6.45-7.45pm.

All training for juniors starts week commencing April 4 at the Lake Grounds, Portishead. New junior members welcome.

■ LAST weekend saw Nailsea Cricket Club begin their pre-season preparations will the erection of their outdoor nets at the Grove Sports Centre.

Nailsea will once again be running four Saturday men’s teams and a friendly XI, as well as continuing to develop their ladies’ and girls’ section. The junior section will also see the addition of Under-7s to the five teams already in place (Under-9s, 11s, 13s, 15s and 17s).

The junior registration evening took place last Sunday and saw a fantastic turnout. However, it’s not too late to sign up. If you’re interested, simply find the right training session from the list below and come along to the Grove Sports Centre.

Training dates - Under-7s and Under-9s: Mondays 6-7pm (commencing May 9); Under-11s: Thursdays 6.30-8pm (April 7); Under-13s: Saturdays 10.30am-12noon (April 9); Under-15s: Wednesdays 6.15pm (April 6); men and Under-17s: Tuesdays and Fridays 6.30pm (March 29); girls (year 7+) and ladies: Wednesday 7-8.30pm (April 13).

The senior men’s registration evening will take place on the same night as the first net session (March 29).

■ FAILAND and Portbury CC play their cricket just six miles from Bristol city centre, yet the ground is set in glorious North Somerset countryside.

The club have two Saturday and two Sunday teams and are looking for new members of all ages and abilities.

Winter nets are at 5pm on Sundays at the Downs School, Wraxall, until April 17th and new players are welcome. New players interested in coming to the nets or joining for the summer should contact George Humphreys on georgethomashumphreys@gmail.com

This winter, the ground has undergone a transformation with the previously small boundaries being extended to give the ground a large playing area surrounded by some impressive oak trees.
